GULF SHORES, Ala., -- Fourth-seeded UCLA (22-8) saw its season come to an end after a great run in the elimination bracket, falling 3-1 on Sunday morning to No. 1 Florida State (32-2) in the elimination bracket of the 2016 NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship on Sunday morning at Gulf Place Beach.

The Bruins staved off elimination in three matches, defeating No. 8 Stetson (3-2), No. 3 Pepperdine (3-2) and No. 5 Hawai'i (3-0).

Florida State earned the first point on court five as Nikki Esposito and Macy Jerger defeated Reily Buechler and Julie Consani in straight sets, 21-16, 21-15.

UCLA tied the dual at 1-1 on court two with an easy straight-set sweep by Ivey Schmitt and Kamila Tan over FSU's Kristina Pellitteri and Victoria Paranagua, 21-13, 21-14.

Julie Brown and Jace Pardon gave Florida State a 2-1 lead with a tightly-contested two-set win over the Bruins' freshman pair of Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara, 21-19, 24-22.

FSU clinched the win on court three with a three-set win by Vanessa Freire and Sierra Sanchez over UCLA's Izzy Carey and Elise Zappia, 19-21, 21-15, 15-11.

UCLA's undefeated duo of Jessyka Ngauamo and Zana Muno were leading the Seminoles' Katie Horton and Annie Montgomery, 17-21, 21-17, 5-3 (DNF) before the match was suspended. The duals at the NCAA Championship play to decision, not completion.
