SAN DIEGO - The third-ranked Bruins exploded for eight runs in the top of the sixth inning, keyed by a grand slam from redshirt sophomore Rachel Garcia, who also struck out seven in a complete-game, one-hit shutout, as UCLA improved to 19-0 with an 8-0 victory over Santa Clara on Sunday at SDSU Softball Stadium.

Garcia gave up just four baserunners on a single and three walks to move to 8-0 on the season. She retired the first six batters of the game, while also posting a 1-2-3 frame in the fifth, striking out a pair in the first, fifth and sixth innings. 

At the plate, the Bruins had nine hits from six different players, with Garcia, senior Kylee Perez and redshirt freshman Aaliyah Jordan recording two each. 

After five scoreless innings, UCLA busted the game open by sending 12 to the plate in the sixth inning. Perez led off with a walk, moved to second on a single to left-center by Jordan and to third on a walk to junior Brianna Tautalafua. Garcia then crushed a 3-1 pitch over the fence in left, her first homer of the season, to put the Bruins up. One out later, sophomore Bubba Nickles singled back to the circle, and another out later, freshman Malia Quarles walked and freshman Briana Perez reached on a bunt single to load the bases again. A single to right off the bat of Kylee Perez plated Nickles and junior Zoe Shaw, who was running for Quarles, to make it 6-0, while a two-run double to right-center from Jordan brought in both Perez's to increase the lead to 8-0.
