JORDAN EARNS PAC-12 FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK FOR FOURTH TIME
Redshirt freshman Aaliyah Jordan was named Pac-12 Conference Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this season on Monday, recording hits, runs batted in and runs scored in all four Bruin victories last week.
Jordan went 7-for-15 (.467) for the week with seven RBI, six runs and two doubles. She opened the week with four RBI on March 26 against Oregon State, posting a pair of two-run singles in the first and second innings. Jordan added two hits, including an RBI double which proved to be the game-winning RBI, in the March 29 series opener at Utah. After posting another RBI double and two walks in game two against the Utes, Jordan had two hits, including an RBI single, and scored three times in the series finale.
Jordan leads the Bruins in batting average (.490) and runs batted in (46), ranking fourth and fifth, respectively, in the national rankings in those categories. She also has a team-best 12 doubles, is second with 16 walks and tied for second with 35 runs scored.
Jordan's Freshman of the Week award is the 11th in UCLA history in just the fourth year of the award's existence and fifth this season, as Briana Perez earned the honor on Feb. 13. Jordan's previous three FOW nods came on Feb. 20, Feb. 27 and March 13.
NEWS AND NOTES
Of the 221 runs batted in for Bruin hitters, 94 have come with two outs for a 42.5 percentage. Freshman Briana Perez leads the team with 19 two-out RBI, followed by redshirt freshman Aaliyah Jordan (17) and redshirt sophomore Rachel Garcia (10) ... the Bruins were the final remaining undefeated team in college softball this season, entering their March 17 game with a 25-0 record. UCLA's start was tied for the fifth best in program history. In three of the other five seasons where the Bruins started a year with at least 25 consecutive wins, they won the NCAA Championship (1992, 1999, 2004) ... UCLA is tied with Oklahoma and Washington for the least number of losses in the nation (2) ... with the Feb. 25 win against Missouri, head coach Kelly Inouye-Perez earned the 500th victory of her career ... after posting 13 comeback victories last season, the Bruins already have seven this year ...
