Ross, Ohashi Score Perfect 10s in Win at Washington

February 10, 2019 | Gymnastics

Seattle - For the second time this season, Kyla Ross and Katelyn Ohashi each scored a perfect 10, and the Bruins ran their record to a perfect 8-0 after a 197.600-196.000 victory in front of a record 7,228 fans in Seattle.

Ross upped her career perfect 10 total to eight after sticking her laid-out Yurchenko 1.5 vault for her first-ever perfect mark on that event. It was also UCLA's first perfect 10 on vault since Vanessa Zamarripa at the 2013 Pac-12 Championships. Ross has scored a 10 on three of four events, with five on bars, two on balance beam and one on vault.

The 2012 Olympic gold medalist scored a career-high of 39.775 in the all-around, the highest all-around total in the nation this year.

Ohashi recorded her second 10 of the season on floor exercise and the first in her hometown of Seattle. The 10 was her fifth on floor in her career and her seventh overall. She also has two 10s on balance beam.

Ross and Ohashi nearly scored another 10 on balance beam, each recording scores of 9.975.

The Bruins led from start to finish, beginning the meet with a 49.375 on uneven bars. Madison Kocian won the event with a 9.925, and Margzetta Frazier and Ross tied for second with 9.875s. Norah Flatley added a 9.850, and Felicia Hano recorded a career-best 9.850.

Behind Ross' perfect 10, UCLA scored 49.300 on vault. Nia Dennis placed second on the event with a 9.875, and Hano was third with a 9.850.

Floor exercise was quintessential UCLA, as the Bruins totaled 49.600 thanks to four 9.9+ routines from Ohashi (10.0), Ross (9.925), Dennis (9.9) and Hano (9.9) and a 9.875 from Gracie Kramer.

UCLA closed it out on beam with back-to-back 9.975s from Ross and Ohashi for a total score of 49.325. Flatley also scored well with a 9.875, and Grace Glenn made her return to the lineup after suffering an injury in the first meet of the season. Glenn scored 9.775.

The Bruins will return home for a Saturday, Feb. 16 meet in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom against Arizona. The first-ever BruInclusion meet will begin at 2:30pm and will be televised live on Pac-12 Networks.
