July 13, 2019 | Women's Basketball
TORONTO – UCLA women's basketball signee Brynn Masikewich was named to the Canadian FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup Team.
"We've had a very competitive training camp so far," said head coach Claire Meadows. "The athletes have put in a lot of work and have made good progress in their training. We are looking forward to representing Canada on the international stage in Thailand at the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup."
A 6-foot-3 product out of Alberta, Canada, Masikewich was listed as a four-star recruit and played for the Canadian National Team at the FIBA U17 Women's World Basketball Cup, where she tallied averages of 5.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. At Lincoln Prep, Masikewich is off to a great start to her senior campaign, averaging over 20 points and 13 rebounds per contest. She is currently looking to lead Lincoln Prep to its third-consecutive OSBA Championship.
Meadows (University of Saskatchwan) will be joined by assistants Ryan Thorne (McGill University) and Erin McAleenan (York University).
Canada is in Group A along with Latvia, Mozambique and hosts Thailand.
Canada earned a historic bronze medal at the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup 2017 in Udine and Cividale del Friuli, Italy. The bronze was Canada's first medal in eight appearances at the event since it began in 1985.
Last summer, the team earned a silver medal at the FIBA U18 Women's Americas Championship 2018 in Mexico City, Mexico.
Canada is currently ranked fourth worldwide in the FIBA World Ranking Presented by NIKE.
