Onyenwere Reports to Training Camp for USA Basketball

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Michaela Onyenwere reported to training camp today to join the 2019 U.S. Pan American Games Women's Basketball Team at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center, as the squad begins its preparation for the 2019 Pan American Games.
"I am really excited to get to work, as I leave this week for Colorado Springs," said Onyenwere, who most recently helped her USA Basketball 3x3 squad place second at the Red Bull 3x qualifier in Brooklyn, N.Y.
"I'm mostly looking forward to growing my relationship with my new teammates and getting to compete with the best in the country."
The USA team will undergo training camp until Aug. 5, before competing in the women's basketball tournament at the 2019 Pan American Games, set for Aug. 6-10 at the Coliseo Eduardo Dibo in Lima, Peru. USA will play in preliminary round Group B, along with Argentina, Colombia and U.S. Virgin Islands. Playing in preliminary round Group A will be Brazil, Canada, Paraguay and Puerto Rico.

The U.S. Pan American Games Women's Basketball Team, which was announced on May 20 following four days of trials, and includes: Bella Alarie (Princeton/Bethesda, Md.), Brittany Brewer (Texas Tech/Abilene, Texas), Chennedy Carter (Texas A&M/Mansfield, Texas), Kathleen Doyle (Iowa/Lagrange Park, Ill.), Tyasha Harris (South Carolina/Noblesville, Ind.), Taylor Mikesell (Maryland/Massillon, Ohio), Beatrice Mompremier (Miami/Miami, Fla.), Michaela Onyenwere (UCLA/Aurora, Colo.), Mikayla Pivec (Oregon State/Lynnwood, Wash.), Lindsey Pulliam (Northwestern/Silver Spring, Md.), Kiana Williams (Stanford/San Antonio, Texas) and Peyton Williams (Kansas State/Topeka, Kan.).
The USA head coach is Suzy Merchant (Michigan State), with USA assistant coaches Felisha Legette-Jack (Buffalo) and Vic Schaefer (Mississippi State).
