UCLA Puts Up Record Setting Marks In Split Weekend

LOS ANGELES – The UCLA track and field team put together record setting performances across three different meets this weekend. The Bruins participated at the Battle on the Bayou in Baton Rouge, La., and sent members of the distance team to the Stanford Invitational and the San Francisco State Distance Carnival.

In Baton Rouge, UCLA earned wins from Julian Wruck in the discus with a mark of 201-9. Matthew Kosecki followed in third with a throw of 182-4 and Nicholas Scarvelis was fourth with a mark of 178-1.

Scarvelis won the shot put with a mark of 63-2.75. Wruck finished third in his first showing in the event in 2014 with a throw of 54-4.

The Bruins took top honors in both pole vault events as Elena Clarke cleared a personal best 13-6.25 to win the event. Natasha Kolbo followed in second with a vault of 13-2.25. Mike Woepse won the men's event with a clearance of 17-11.75.

In another strong performance in the field, UCLA took 1-2 in the women's high jump as well. Alexis Walker won the event with a leap of 5-10.75 while Zibby Boyer cleared a personal best of 5-9.25. 

Also at the Battle on the Bayou, Zaybree Haury placed second in the javelin with a throw of 145-11. On the men's side, Cody Danielson finished third with a throw of 213-7.

In her first appearance in the long jump this outdoor campaign, All-American Kylie Price won the event with a leap of 20-9.

In the 100-hurdles Trinity Wilson placed second with a 13.40 while Brea Buchanan was fourth with a 13.61.

At the Stanford Invitational, the Bruins made their mark on the top-10 list. Bronte Golick moved to second all-time in the 10,000m at UCLA with a time of 34:34.55. Kelsey Smith also moved to second all-time by running a 16:01.30 in the 5,000m.

Nick Hartle placed second in the 1,500m with a 3:48.99. Ferdinand Edman placed fourth in the 5,000m with a personal best 14:14.27.

At San Francisco State Elle Sanders and Sabrina Seay set personal bests in the 1,500m with times of 4:31.42 and 4:33.73, respectively. Michael McCabe finished third in the 10,000m with a personal best of 29:45.01.

UCLA will return home for its second meet in Drake Stadium on the young season as the Bruins will host the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee on Saturday, April 12. UCLA will welcome TCU and BYU to Westwood for the annual meet.
