The Bruins continue their Fall season this weekend at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate. The three-day, 54-hole event will be played from Friday through Sunday at the par-72, 7,017-yard Golf Club of Georgia layout.
The starting fivesome for UCLA will be seniors Jack Ireland
and Cole Madey
, junior Hidetoshi Yoshihara
, sophomore Devon Bling
and freshman Sean Maruyama
. Friday's opening round starts at 9 a.m. ET/6 a.m. PT off the 10th tee in the order of Maruyama, Yoshihara, Madey, Bling and Ireland.
Joining the Bruins and host and No. 3 Georgia Tech in the 14-team field are No. 2 Duke, No. 5 Alabama, No. 9 Texas A&M, No. 10 USC, No. 11 Wake Forest, No. 15 Clemson, No. 28 Stanford, No. 32 Florida State, No. 47 New Mexico, No. 49 TCU, East Tennessee State and Virginia (Golfstat rankings as of Oct. 16).
In their first two team events this season, the Bruins have finished seventh at the Golfweek Conference Challenge (Sept. 16-18) and the Windon Memorial Classic (Sept. 23-24). UCLA posted a total of 1-over 577 at the rain-shortened GCC, which included a 4-under 284 in round two. At the Windon, the Bruins recorded a 6-under 282 in round two, finishing at 9-over 873.
Ireland has been the top finisher for the Bruins in both tournaments, tying for eighth at the Windon Memorial Classic and tying for ninth at the Golfweek Conference Challenge. He has been under par in three of five rounds, including both at the GCC, where he finished at 3-under 141. Ireland posted a 3-under 69 in round two at the Windon (-2, 214).
Yoshihara has a pair of Top 20s on the season, tying for 19th at the Golfweek Challenge (-1, 143), where he shot a 4-under 68 in round two. He tied for 20th at the Windon (+2, 218). Madey went T-32 at the GCC (+2, 146) and T-43 at the Windon (+7, 223), shooting a pair of even-par rounds on the season. Bling, who missed the Golfweek Conference Challenge with a wrist injury, returned at the Windon Memorial Classic, tying for 47th (+8, 224). Maruyama recorded a T-20 showing as an individual at the Windon (+2, 218), opening with a 3-under 69. He also tied for 56th at the GCC.
The Bruins are making their 12th appearance in the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate, having won the tournament in 2011. UCLA also has runner-up showings in 2007, 2010 and 2012. The Bruins tied for fourth last year, as Madey tied for 12th (-5, 211). UCLA has recorded one medalist at this tournament, as Erik Flores won in 2009.
