Bruins Post Two More Top 10 Wins

MIAMI, Fla. -- No. 1 UCLA improved to 19-0 on the year with two more top 10 wins to open play at the FIU Surf-N-Turf Invitational on Friday, Mar. 29 at Lummus Park Beach Courts. The Bruins opened with a 4-1 win over No. 4 LSU (15-5) in the morning and then posted their 13th sweep of the year with a 5-0 victory in the afternoon over No. 10 Stetson (16-7).
In the win over the Tigers, senior Sarah Sponcil paired with junior Lily Justine on court two to take down LSU's Kaitlee York and Ashley Aumer in straight sets, 21-17, 21-11.

Then seniors Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara put UCLA up 2-0 with a hard-fought win on court one in straight sets, 26-24, 21-18, over the Tigers' Claire Coppola and Kristen Nuss.
Freshman Abby Van Winkle and senior Zana Muno sealed the dual win on court three, improving to 16-0 on the year, rallying for a three-set win on court four over Olivia Beyer and Kelli Agnew, 18-21, 21-14, 16-14.
Sophomore Lea Monkhouse and junior Savvy Simo were reunited on court four, but fell in a three-set heartbreaker to LSU's Melia Lindner and Megan Davenport, 13-21, 21-11, 15-12.
Freshman Lindsey Sparks and senior Izzy Carey provided the 4-1 final, rallying for a three-set win on court five over the Tigers' Allison Coens and Hunter Domanski, 24-26, 21-16, 15-11.

In the win over the Hatters, freshman Lindsey Sparks and senior Izzy Carey got the Bruins on the board first with a straight-set win over Rebecca Ingram and Quinci Birker, 21-10, 21-15.
Freshman Abby Van Winkle and senior Zana Muno put UCLA up 2-0, improving to 17-0 on the year with a straight-set win on court three over the Hatters' Rachel and Kelli Agnew, 21-15, 21-15.
Seniors Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara improved to 16-1 on the year with their 13th-consecutive straight-set win on court one that sealed the dual victory for the Bruins, defeating Carly Perales and Sunniva Helland-Hansen, 21-13, 21-12.
Sophomore Lea Monkhouse and junior Savvy Simo put the Bruins up 4-0 on court four with a straight-set win over Stetson's Julie Varga and Sam Harris, 21-11, 21-8.
Senior Sarah Sponcil and junior Lily Justine completed the sweep with a straight-set win on court two over the Hatters' Sammee Thomas and Darby Dunn, 21-14, 21-16.
The Bruins return to action tomorrow at the FIU Surf-N-Turf Invitational in Miami, Fla., when they face No. 3 Florida State (8:00 a.m. PT) and No. 8 FIU (1:00 p.m. PT).
