Men's Water Polo
Team USA improved to 2-0 at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics with a dominant 20-3 win over South Africa. The Americans scored the first five goals of the contest and led 12-1 at halftime.

Both UCLA players started for Team USA as Max Irving scored twice and added a couple of assists, a steal, a field block and drew one penalty shot. Goalkeeper Alex Wolf made his Olympic debut and tallied 13 saves on 16 shots by South Africa. He also had two steals and an assist in the win.

Up next for Team USA will be a Group A match with Italy on Monday, July 29 in Tokyo at 2 p.m. local time/10 p.m. PDT on July 28. The game is slated to be televised on USA Network.

Women's Basketball
Atonye Nyingifa made her Olympic debut in Nigeria's 81-72 loss to the United States on Tuesday in Tokyo. She notched five points in 26 minutes of action, adding three rebounds and three assists in the performance. At +7, Nyingifa was one of only three Nigeria players to record a positive +/- for the game.

Angela Dugalic is next up for the Bruins early Thursday morning as Serbia takes on Spain at 1:20 a.m. PT. Dugalic did not play in Serbia's opening-night victory over Nirra Fields and Team Canada on Monday. Fields recorded a game-high 19 points in the matchup.

Men's Tennis
Marcos Giron fell to Japan's Kei Nishikori 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-1 and was eliminated from competition.

Each player had one break in the first set, with Giron recording two aces, but losing a tightly contested tie-breaker. Giron capitalized on both of his break opportunities in the second set to force a third. But Giron went 0-for-2 on his break chances in the third and decisive set while Nishikori went 3-for-5 to propel him to victory.

Women's Diving
Incoming UCLA freshman Eden Cheng made her Olympic debut on Monday night, helping Great Britain to a seventh-place finish in the women's 10-meter synchronized diving finals. Cheng and partner Lois Toulson tallied a final score of 289.26 in the competition, finishing just over 10 points from a medal spot.
Cheng and Toulson moved into seventh place after earning a 71.04 on their fourth dive (inward 3 ยฝ somersaults). That score was the third-highest of any duo in the fourth round. ย

Women's Soccer
On the final day of group play, the U.S. and Australia tied 0-0, and Canada tied Great Britain 1-1. All three teams with Bruins on it (USA, Australia, Canada) have moved on to the quarterfinals.

Midfielder Sam Mewis started and played 65 minutes while defender Abby Dahlkemper did not play for the United States. Teagan Micah earned the start in goal for Australia and registered a shutout. Canada's Jessie Fleming played 45 minutes off the bench in the draw with Great Britain.

The U.S. finished second in Group G (1-1-1) and will take on the Netherlands, which won Group F (2-1-0) on Friday, July 30 at 8:00 p.m. local time (July 30 at 4:00 a.m. PDT) at International Stadium Yokohama.

Canada finished second in Group E (1-2-0) and will face Brazil, which finished second in Group F (2-1-0) on Friday, July 30 at 5:00 p.m. local time (July 30 at 1:00 a.m. PDT) at Miyagi Stadium.

Australia finished third in Group G (1-1-1) and will square off with Great Britain, which won Group E (2-1-0) on Friday, July 30 at 6:00 p.m. local time (July 30 at 2:00 a.m. PDT) at Ibaraki Kashima Stadium.

Women's Gymnastics
Incoming freshman Jordan Chiles helped Team USA win silver in the team final. Chiles was originally scheduled to compete on two events but unexpectedly was pressed to duty after teammate Simone Biles withdrew after one event. Chiles recorded the team's highest score on vault (14.666) and contributed a 14.166 on uneven bars, 13.433 on balance beam and 11.700 on floor exercise.

The U.S. women have won a team medal in every Olympics since 1992.

The United States softball team won the silver medal in the sport's return to the Olympic Games, dropping a 2-0 decision to host Japan in the gold-medal game on Tuesday night in Tokyo. Delaney Spaulding started at shortstop, hitting sixth, and walked in three plate appearances, adding two putouts and three assists on defense. Ally Carda pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief and struck out two. Rachel Garcia and Bubba Nickles were not entered into the game.
