J.D. Morgan was the heart and soul of UCLA athletics during his tenure as the school's vibrant athletic director from 1963-1980. The Bruins won an unprecedented 30 NCAA team championships while Morgan was athletic director, the most ever by a university over such a span. A 1941 graduate of UCLA, Morgan lettered in tennis from 1938-1941. He was the assitant tennis coach under Bill Ackerman since 1947, and he was the head coach from 1951-1966, winning seven national team titles.
Morgan, who died at 61 in 1980, was a charter member of the UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame in 1984.
