Coach John Wooden had an experienced, but relatively undersized, basketball team in 1964. He took advantage of his squad's quickness by utilizing a devastating full-court zone press that would be a trademark of Bruins basketball. Assistant coach Jerry Norman is credited with helping to devise the press. Norman was a player for Wooden from 1950-1952, then rejoined his mentor as an assistant coach in 1959. After 10 seasons that included four national titles, Norman left coaching and entered the investment business.
