A starting forward on John Wooden's final national championship team in 1975, Johnson played in three Final Fours and was college basketball's player of the year in 1977. He went on to play 11 seasons in the NBA, earning five all-star selections in a career with the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Clippers. He remains involved with the game as a television analyst.

Johnson, whose son Kris was a Bruin guard in the 1990s, was inducted into the UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame in 1988.
