The Honorable Peter Dailey earned seven letters in football and rugby, capping his athletic career by playing in the 1954 Rose Bowl. A former fullback, Dailey earned his bachelor's degree in marketing from UCLA and has since been awarded three honorary doctorate degrees by the university in Law, Humanities, and Fine Arts.

Since his college days, he has served a number of key roles in business and government. Dailey was Deputy Director of the Presidential campaigns of Nixon (1972), Ford (1976), and Reagan (1980). He served as Special Consultant to the State Department from 1980-1981. From 1982-1984, he was the U.S. ambassador to Ireland. In 1985, he was the Special Presidential Envoy to NATO countries for intermediate nuclear weapons. Also in 1985, President Reagan appointed him as the National Chairman for the 40th Annual Celebration of United Nations Day. He served as Counselor to William Casey, the CIA Director, from 1985-1988. Dailey was a member of the 11-man Presidential Advisory Committee on Arms Control and Disarmament from 1987-1994, appointed by President Reagan and reaffirmed by President Bush.

For UCLA, Dailey has served as a director of the UCLA Alumni Association and on the Board of Overseers of UCLA's Anderson Graduate School of Management. He is a founding trustee of the UCLA Foundation. From 1976-77, he served as an adjunct professor of marketing for special programs in the Republic of China. Dailey twice received the UCLA John E. Anderson Graduate School of Management Award for distinguished leadership in the business community, as well as for extraordinary service on behalf of his country twice (1988, 1996).
