MALIBU, Calif. (AP) - UCLA coach Kathy Olivier got exactly what she asked for in the second half.
Maylana Martin scored 17 of her 21 points in the second half to lead No. 8 UCLA to an 86-67 victory over Pepperdine on Saturday.
"We were able to get Martin the ball early in the second half and stayed aggressive on offense," Olivier said. "That is what we talked about at halftime, and we went out and did it."
Michelle Greco and Nicole Kaczmarski added 20 points each for the Bruins (4-2), who led by only two at halftime.
"In the first half, we played well the first 10 minutes," Olivier said. "The second 10 minutes we did not keep Pepperdine off the boards. They got too many second shots and caught us."
Martin scored eight points during a 22-13 run early in the second half, and UCLA extended its lead to double digits with a 3-pointer by Greco with 14:40 remaining. The Waves (2-4) got no closer than 11 points for the rest of the game.
Rasheeda Clark scored 19 points for the Waves, and Dee Braxton added 13. Pepperdine used a 23-12 run over the final 8:17 of the first half to cut into an early 13-point UCLA lead.
