UCLA and Adidas America have reached agreement on a multi-year sports marketing partnership. This agreement will begin on July 1, 1999.
Adidas will contribute educational, marketing and promotional support, create several internship opportunities for UCLA students, and will be the exclusive licensee for athletic replica wear and authentics.
Adidas will also provide equipment and apparel to UCLA's 21 intercollegiate teams, and other campus units to include the UCLA Spirit Squad and the UCLA Recreation Department.
The new agreement is for six years, concluding in June, 2005. UCLA Athletics is currently in its final year of a six-year agreement with Reebok.
"This announcement is the culmination of many months of internal discussions, planning and analysis," said Athletic Director Pete Dalis. "We invited proposals from all qualified and interested parties. In the end, adidas' response and ancillary marketing and promotional support best met the needs of the University." He added "Reebok has, and will continue to be a wonderful partner, and we are proud to use their product until the new agreement begins."
Under the terms of the agreement, UCLA Athletics will receive an annual allowance for equipment and apparel in addition to cash payments. A significant percentage of these payments will help defray costs of the Morgan Center renovation, scheduled to begin this fall.
