The tandem will face the Australian team of Kerri Pottharst/Natalie Cook in the semifinals and remain in contention to qualify for the Olympic Games. Senior Blake Wellen and senior Adam Wright notched two goals apiece. Sophomore goalkeeper Brandon Brooks collected nine saves. The Bruins later dropped a 7-6 heartbreaker to Concord. Six different players scored, while Brooks made five saves. Matt Armato (1995-1999) scored a goal to help Long Beach Shore defeat New York AC's B team, 12-3.

In Game Two, Lisa Fernandez (1990-1993) pitched her second consecutive perfect game and struck out 19 batters in a 5-0 victory. Fernandez allowed only two infield outs while striking out 19 of 21 batters she faced.

JaRon Rush contributed four points and three boards in a starting role for the Celtics. Tyus Edney had 10 points, two assists and two steals for the Washington Wizards in the 92-85 loss against Milwaukee. Toby Bailey added eight points and three rebounds in 22 minutes of play for the Wizards in Boston. Baron Davis had 19 points and seven assists to help the LA Pros over the Olimpia Milano, 146-105, in the Southern California Summer Pro League. Pooh Richardson chipped in 18 points for the LA Pros.

  • Sheila (Cornell) Douty (1981-1984) and Jennifer Brundage (1992-1995) scored the game's only runs as the USA National Team defeated the Akron Racers 2-0. Brundage went 2-3 in the contest.

  • Ante Razov (1992-1995) scored the only goal for the USA National Team in a 1-1 tie with Guatemala in the USA's first 2002 World Cup qualifier. Razov was named the game's "Man of the Match."

    Beach Volleyball

  • Holly McPeak (1990) and partner Misty May won the gold medal at the FIVB German Open, earning their third gold medal in 13 days. Jenny Johnson Jordan (1992-1995)/Annett (Buckner) Davis (1991-1994) finished fifth and Liz Masakayan (1982-1985)/Elaine Youngs (1988-1992) finished 17th.
  • Stein Metzger (1993-96) and partner Brent Doble finished third in the AVP Muskegon Open.

  • Beth Goodwin (1998-present) was fourth in the 100 Fly at the Janet Evans Invitational. Erin Zehntner (2000-present) placed sixth in the 1500 Free.
  • Byron Davis was a member of the first place 400 Medley Relay Team, as well as placing fourth in the 100 Fly.

Chris Pritchett was 2-6 with an RBI and run scored in the game for Scranton-Wilkes Barre.
  • Tim DeCinces, Mobile (AA, San Diego Padres): Hit a pinch-hit, two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game up and Mobile added another run and held on to to defeat Chattanooga 5-4.
  • Eric Karros, Los Angeles Dodgers: Was 1-2 with two walks and a run scored, as the Dodgers defeated the Pittsburgu Pirates 7-3.
  • Mike Fyhrie, Anaheim Angels: Pitched 1.1 shutout innings, lowering his ERA to 2.35, as the Angels lost to the San Diego Padres 6-5.
  • Adam Melhuse, Colorado Springs (AAA, Colorado Rockies): Was 2-3 with a run scored and RBI in Colorado Springs' 13-12 victory over Memphis.
  • Eric Valent, Reading (AA, Philadelphia Phillies): Was 2-7 with two runs scored in Reading's 6-2, 15-inning victory over Trenton.

  • Ryan McGuire, Norfolk (AAA, Mets) was 0-1 with a sacrfice bunt, sacrifice fly and walk in Norfolk's 8-4 victory over Scranton-Wilkes Barre. Chris Pritchett (AAA, Phillies) was 1-3 with a walk for Scarnton-Wilkes Barre.
  • Michael Moore, Greenville (AA, Braves) was 1-3 with a stolen base and walk in Greenville's 10-1 loss to Tennessee.

  • Keiko Price (1997-2000) placed eighth in the 100 free finals at the Janet Evans Invitational. Price was a member of the 400 Free Relay team that placed eighth as well. Other members were Marilyn Chua (1999-present), Ashley Grissom (2000-present) and Holiday Powell (1999-present). Erin Zehntner (2000-present) was 14th in the 400 free, while Katie Younglove (1999-present) placed 18th in the 200 Fly.

    Beach Volleyball

  • The teams of Holly McPeak (1990)/Misty May and Jenny Johnson Jordan (1992-1995)/Annett Buckner Davis (1991-1994) advanced to Saturday's semi-final qualifying rounds at the FIVB German Open by winning two matches.
  • At the FIVB Italy Open, Sinjin Smith (1976-1979)/Carl Henkel (1988-1991) scored a pair of upset victories to remain in contention for the tournament title. Kevin Wong (1992-1995)/Rob Heidger won two of three matches to also stay alive.
