In doubles, Eric Taino (1994-97) is teaming with Jonathan Stark, while Mark Knowles (1990-92) and Gimelstob make up an all-Bruin tandem. Kim will be teaming up with former Harvard standout James Blake. Kimberly Po (1990-91) and her partner Anne-Gaelle Sidot are seeded 14th in the women's doubles draw.

  • Ryan Hamill (2000) of Johnson City (A, St. Louis Cardinals) was 4-for-5 with a home run (his 10th of the year), five RBI and three runs scored in Johnson City's 19-15 victory over Bluefield in Game 1 of a doubleheader. Hamill, who started at catcher in Game 1, started at first base in Game 2, and was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, belting his 11th homer of the season, as Johnson City defeated Bluefield 10-5. Hamill is second in the Appalachian League in home runs (trailing the leader by one), and second in RBI (trailing by one).

  • Steve McCain (1993-1994) earned a spot on the U.S. Olympic team after placing fourth at the Olympic Trials. McCain scored an all-around total of 57.5 and recorded a combined U.S. Championships-Olympic Trials score of 112.945.

  • Sasha Victorine (1996-1999) scored the Los Angeles Galaxy's lone goal off an assist from Cobi Jones (1988-1991), but it wasn't enough to defeat the Chicago Fire, which won 2-1.   • UCLA men's golf coach Brad Sherfy shot an 80 in his opening round of play at the 82nd PGA Championships at the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisivlle, Kentucky. Tom Pernice Jr. (1978-81) led all former UCLA players, shooting a +2, 74 in his opening round. He was followed by Steve Pate (1980-83) and Duffy Waldorf (1982-85) who both finished at +3. Corey Pavin (1978-82) checked in at +7.

  • Julie Adams (1996-2000) and Heather Compton (1982-1985) of the Ohio Pride were selected to the WPSL All-Star team.
  • Ohio Pride first baseman Julie Adams (1996-2000) earned Louisville Slugger of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, Aug. 13 after collecting two hits in six at-bats, including a double and a game-winning grand slam versus the first-place Florida Wahoos in game one of Saturday's split-doubleheader.

  • Joe-Max Moore (1990-1992) scored two goals and added an assist to lead the U.S. National Team to a 7-0 victory over Barbados in World Cup Qualifying. With the two goals, Moore moves into second place on the United States' all-time goal scoring list with 22 goals, passing Bruce Murray's total of 21. Cobi Jones (1988-1991) had two assists for the U.S., and Brad Friedel (1990-1992) earned the shutout.
  • Greg Vanney (1993-1995) scored the game's only goal in the eighth minute of overtime to give the Los Angeles Galaxy a 1-0 victory over Colorado. Matt Reis (1994-1997) made four saves to record the shutout.
