Gainesville, FL - The UCLA soccer team completed a rare feat Sunday afternoon - becoming the fourth team ever to shut out the University of Florida soccer team on its home field. The No. 14 Bruins defeated the No. 10 Gators 4-0 in front of a Percy Beard Stadium crowd of 1,657. The loss also marked the biggest deficit ever for the Gators at home, erasing the previous mark set in the 2-0 loss to Vanderbilt on Sept. 14, 1997. The loss drops the Gators to 2-2 for the season, while UCLA improves to 3-1.
The Bruins found success in the opening half heading the ball, as three headers turned into goals. Sarah-Gayle Swanson scored first for the Bruins at 6:15, hitting the four-yard header off the cross from Venus James. James got her own goal at 17:30, heading the right cross from six-yards out. Stephanie Rigamat finished off the Bruins scoring for the first half at 29:30, taking the left cross from Whitney Jones and heading it in from 10 yards.
UCLA's Swanson scored again in the second half, hitting a two-yard volley that came off the post at 54:40.
For the match, UCLA outshot the Gators 18-4. UF goalkeeper Jordan Kellgren matched her collegiate-high with seven saves Sunday, while UCLA's CiCi Peterson recorded no saves.
