
No. 1 Men's Water Polo Wins Two At Nor Cal Tournament

STOCKTON, Calif. - No. 1 UCLA won two games during the first day of the Northern California Tournament hosted by the University of the Pacific. In the first game, UCLA defeated UC Santa Cruz 16-3, and beat Pepperdine 10-3 in game two. With UCLA's ninth win in a row, the Bruins improves to 12-2.
Freshman Albert Garcia scored four goals to lead the Bruins against UC Santa Cruz. Adam Wright, Andy Bailey, Alfonso Tucay and Kyle Baumgarner each scored twice for the Bruins. Brandon Brooks made eight saves in goal. The Bruins played strong throughout the game, scoring seven goals in the first half, and nine in the second.
The Bruins continued to play well in the second game against Pepperdine, winning 10-3. UCLA did not allow a single goal in the first half, taking a 6-0 lead into the third quarter. 2000 Olympian Sean Kern led the Bruins in scoring with three goals. Wright scored twice, while Brooks made six saves in goal.
UCLA will play California in the semifinals tomorrow morning at 9:50 a.m. If they win, they will take on the winner of the USC-Stanford match in the championship game.
