LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Twelve different Bruins scored goals in UCLA's 16-2 win over Loyola Marymount in men's water polo action this afternoon. Adam Wright, Kyle Baumgarner, Jeff Pflueger and Jon Puffer each scored twice for the Bruins, who won their 12th straight game. The Bruins improve to 15-2 overall, while the Lions drop to 13-9.
UCLA jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first quarter. Goalie Brandon Brooks made three saves in the first period, including a stop on a four-meter penalty shot by Tamas Szego.
The Bruins extended the lead to 7-0 before Loyola Marymount's John Peterson scored an extra man goal with 5:10 left in the period. UCLA extended the lead to 9-1 by halftime.
New goalies for each team didn't change the flow of the game. UCLA outscored the Lions 6-1 in the third period. Baumgarner and Puffer each scored their two goals in the period, while Albert Garcia and Alfonso Tucay added goals. Sam Hyman scored an extra man goal at 2:04 in the third to make it 11-2, but the Bruins were too strong, taking a 15-2 lead into the final period. UCLA's lone goal in the fourth period came from Dan Yeilding.
In goal, Brooks made five saves in two quarters of play, while Eric Meadows made five saves in the second half. Each goalkeeper allowed one goal. LMU's Kevin Paulsen made six saves in the first half, and Colin Robinson came in during the second half and made four saves.
UCLA hosts Stanford next Saturday at noon at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center. Game time is 12:00 p.m.
