UCLA Women Upset Arizona Convincingly, 80-66

LOS ANGELES -- The 24th-ranked UCLA women's basketball team upset 15th-ranked Arizona, 80-66, completing a season sweep of the Arizona schools this season.
UCLA (15-7, 9-3 in Pac-10 play) jumped ahead of the Wildcats (20-5, 9-4) in the Pac-10 standings. Arizona had entered the contest in a three-way tie for first place in the conference with 9-3 Stanford and Oregon.
Sophomore guard Michelle Greco sparked the Bruin victory with 22 points off the bench. She did not miss a single shot in the entire game, shooting 7-7 from the field and 8-8 from the free throw line. Greco also contributed six steals.
Tied up at 36 at the end of the first half, the Bruins and Wildcats traded leads for the first five minutes. After Reshea Bristol made a free throw to put the Wildcats up 44-43, the Bruins, behind four steals, went on an 11-0 run to forge ahead 54-44 with 9:30 to play. Arizona rebounded to cut the lead to five, 56-51 with 7:52 to play, but UCLA scored eight unanswered points, seven from Greco, to pull its advantage to 13, 64-51. Greco scored 18 of her 22 points in the second half.
UCLA forced a season-high 29 turnovers and forced the Wildcats into just 21.1 percent shooting (4-19) from the three-point line. The Bruins made 19 steals.
Maylana Martin scored 16 points (6-9 fg) with three steals for the Bruins. Nicole Kaczmarski added 12. Janae Hubbard, Marie Philman and Arizona's Elizabeth Pickney each pulled down a game-high six rebounds. Pickney's six boards were all on the offensive end.
The Bruins will travel to the Oregon schools next week. First up is a battle for first place with Oregon on Thursday, Feb. 24 in Eugene at 7:00 pm.
