LONG BEACH, Calif. -- The Long Beach State women's water polo team dropped an 11-5 decision to No. 3 UCLA as they fell 8-8 on the season and 0-2 in the conference Friday afternoon at the LBSU campus pool.
Kelly Heuchan and Erin Golaboski recorded three goals each for the Bruins, followed by Catharine Von Schwarz with two, while Carly Herrera, Jessica Lopez and Maureen Flanagan each added one. UCLA improved to 12-2 overall and 2-0 in the MPSF.
The Beach was led by Stacy Black who posted three goals for the Niners followed by Lisa Helm with two. Goalie Candace Chick thwarted six Bruins attempts while also logging four steals.
UCLA took the lead early in the first half, allowing just one goal in the first quarter, for a 6-1 halftime lead. The 49ers mounted a comeback in the second half holding the Bruins to a one point lead in third and fourth quarter scoring, but were unable to overcome their earlier deficit.
