LOS ANGELES - The ninth-ranked UCLA women's tennis team advanced to the NCAA Team Championships in Malibu, Calif., May 18-22, after posting a 6-0 victory over Georgia Tech Saturday in an NCAA Regional Final at UCLA's Los Angeles Tennis Center.
The Bruins will meet the winner tomorrow's match between No. 7 Texas and No. 19 Baylor in the round of 16 next week.
UCLA had a 2-0 lead before the match even started as Georgia Tech, down to five players after Laura Ozolins suffered an injury in the first round against Washington on Friday, was forced to default No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.
UCLA No. 1 Sara Walker improved her record to 35-7 on the season, downing Tech's Sabrina Pardo 6-3, 6-1. Also notching singles victories for UCLA Saturday were Annica Cooper, Abigail Spears and Elizabeth Schmidt.
Since UCLA secured the dual-match victory in singles, doubles was not contested.
With the victory, UCLA improves to 16-7 on the season. Georgia Tech finishes its 2000 campaign 14-8.
