UCLA Football Defeats Two No. 3 Teams In The Same Season For The First Time Ever

Today's attendance of 88,044 was the largest Rose Bowl attendance figure for UCLA in a non-UCLA-USC regular season game. The previous high was 85,697 for the UCLA-Washington contest in 1997. It was also UCLA's largest home attendance for a non-UCLA-USC regular season game since drawing 92,962 for a 1946 contest against St. Mary's at the Coliseum.

Due to the heat, UCLA and the Rose Bowl distributed free water to patrons at different locations in the stadium during the game. The temperature on the field at the start of the game was 100 degrees and rose to 110 degrees at the start of the second half.

UCLA head coach Bob Toledo now owns a record of 32-17 in his four-plus years on the job. Under Toledo, UCLA is now 10-7 versus ranked teams.

After defeats of No.3 Alabama Sept. 2 and of No.3 Michigan today, UCLA has defeated two No. 3 teams in the same season for the first time ever. The last time UCLA defeated two ranked teams in the same season was 1988 when it beat #8 Arkansas and #2 Nebraska.

UCLA has broken a three-game losing streak to Michigan with its first win over the Wolverines since the 1983 Rose Bowl Game. Michigan still leads the series, 8-3.

UCLA has remained undefeated this season despite failing to score first in all three games.

Anthony Thomas' TD run of 63 yards was the second-longest run in his career. His career-high is 80-yards against Hawaii in 1998.

DeShaun Foster's third-quarter touchdown run was his sixth in three games this season. He now has 24 career touchdowns for 146 career points, a total that ties him for 16th place on UCLA's all-time list with Zenon Andrusyshyn (1967-69).

Foster rushed for 95 yards on 24 carries. His career totals are now 332 rushes for 1,470 yards, which ranks 22nd on UCLA's career rushing list.

UCLA punter Nate Fikse had a career-high tying nine punts and averaged 48.1 yards.

UCLA flanker Freddie Mitchell set a new career high in receptions with 10 for 137 yards.

Bruin quarterback Ryan McCann set new single-game career highs in completions (21), attempts (40), passing yards (236) and touchdowns (2). The 40 attempts were the most by a Bruin quarterback since Cory Paus had 40 vs. Arizona State last season. The 21 completions were also the most since Paus' 21 vs. Oregon last year. Quotes
