LOS ANGELES - Rod Allen hit an RBI single in the top of the 11th to lead ASU to a 4-3 win over the UCLA Baseball team this evening at Jackie Robinson Stadium. UCLA drops to 14-21 on the season, 1-3 in conference play, while ASU improves to 23-12 overall, 7-3 in Pac-10 play.

The Sun Devils took a quick lead in the first inning. The first three batters hit singles off of UCLA starter Chris Cordeiro, including an RBI single by Andre Ethier. But the Bruins answered in the bottom of the first. Ryan Rasmussen led off the game with a walk, and stole second base. He advanced to third on Chris Jensen's fly ball to center field, and scored on an RBI bunt single by Ben Francisco.

Cordeiro settled down and did not allow another run into the seventh inning. The Bruins took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Rasmussen hit a double that just stayed fair in right field, and scored on Jensen's RBI double down the right field line. Jensen scored on Francisco's double down the left field line.

Cordeiro struck out four batters in the first six innings, and was pitching well through the seventh inning. He was able to get the first two batters to ground out, but walked Steve Garrabrants. Jeff Larish followed by hitting his first career home run far over the right field wall to tie the game at 3-3.

The Bruins had many opportunities to take the lead, but stranded four runners on base in the final four innings. The Bruins had runners on first and second with no outs in the eighth, but Rasmussen hit into a double play. In the 10th inning, there were runners at first and second with one out, but Matt Thayer hit into a double play to end the inning.

Mike Kunes took over for Cordeiro in the seventh and proceeded to strike out six of the next seven batters he faced. He left the game with two outs and a runner on first base in the 10th, and was relieved by Doug Silva.

After Silva struck out Nick Cadena, Pedroia hit a single up the middle. Allen followed with a line drive single to left field that allowed Pedroia to score to give the Sun Devils a 4-3 lead.

The Bruins had the heart of their order batting in the bottom of the 11th, but Francisco popped up to the shortstop, and Josh Arhart and Adam Berry both struck out to end the game.

Sun Devil reliever Ryan Schroyer picked up the win after pitching the final 4.0 innings. He allowed just one hit, walked three and struck out five.

Silva suffered the loss, falling to 0-2 on the year. Both of his losses were in extra innings. He pitched 6.1 shutout innings at California last Sunday before the Bears won the game in the 15th inning.

The Bruins return to play on Saturday and look to even the series with the Sun Devils. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
