Senior defensive end Dave Ball (Dixon, CA/Dixon HS) of the UCLA Football Team was selected as the UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 29-Oct. 5.

Ball's defensive domination helped lead UCLA to a stunning 46-16 victory over 18th-ranked Washington in the Pac-10 opener. Ball recorded six tackles (five solos) and spent most of the day in the Husky backfield. On the day, he recorded 3.5 quarterback sacks, one of the best days in school history, and added another tackle behind the line. His first sack, on the first play of the second half, caused a fumble that was recovered by Rodney Leisle for a touchdown. Ball also caused a second fumble.

This is Ball's first UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and the second of his career.

Also nominated: Benny Feilhaber, M. Soccer (scored the game-winner against 13th-ranked Washington); John Merrick, M. Golf (fifth place at the Husky Invitational); Brynn Murphy, W. Volleyball (recorded back-to-back career highs in kills with 21 in the win over Washington State and 22 in the win over Washington); Ted Peck, M. Water Polo (scored four goals, including the game-winner in overtime, against Long Beach State); Sarah-Gayle Swanson, W. Soccer (game-winning goal with three seconds left in regulation against UNLV).
