Los Angeles - The 11th-seeded UCLA women's tennis team defeated IUPUI this afternoon in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at the Los Angeles Tennis Center, 4-0. UCLA will face Pepperdine tomorrow at 3 p.m. in the second round. Earlier in the day, the Waves were 4-3 winners over Minnesota. UCLA has defeated the Waves twice this year, first on January 25 at the LATC, 6-1, then at Malibu on February 14, 4-3.

Courts two and three claimed the doubles point for UCLA. First, Susi Wild and Sarah Gregg beat Mallory Stemle and Michelle Cunningham of the Jaguars, 8-1. Anya Loncaric and Feriel Esseghir followed with an 8-1 win over Emily Dukeman and Hillary Byard. On court one, Sara Walker and Laura Gordon were ahead 6-3 over Brookley Crews and Natalie Bednar when their match got suspended.

UCLA claimed a 3-0 lead when Gordon and Loncaric made quick work of their visiting opponents. Gordon beat Dukeman, 6-0, 6-1, and Loncaric blanked Byard, 6-0, 6-0.

Sara Walker clinched the match for the Bruins with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Crews.

UCLA's women's match tomorrow will follow two NCAA first round men's matches. At 9 a.m., UC Santa Barbara will play USC, followed by UCLA versus Wichita State at noon. UCLA and Pepperdine will follow at 3 p.m.
