Stanford, Calif. - The ninth-ranked UCLA women's tennis team had its six-match winning streak snapped Saturday, falling to top-ranked Stanford, 7-0 at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium. With the win, Stanford remains undefeated and moves to 19-0 on the year. The Bruins drop to 12-6.
The Bruins did manage to keep the doubles point close, taking a victory on court No. 2, where Jackie Carleton and Feriel Esseghir knocked off Alice Barnes/Amber Liu, 8-5. The No. 3 court also was very close, with the Cardinal pulling off a 9-7 decision.
In singles play, UCLA's Daniela Bercek and Laura Gordon managed first-set wins but ended up falling three. Bercek lost to Alice Barnes, 0-6, 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 2 position, while Gordon was defeated by Emilia Anderson, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 at the No. 6 spot. A tiebreaker was played in place of a third set in that match.
Other than those two matches, every other match was a Stanford victory in straight sets.
UCLA returns to action on Apr. 7, hosting Pepperdine at the Los Angeles Tennis Center beginning at 1:30 p.m.
