MALIBU, Calif. - UCLA thwarted a late Pepperdine rally as the fourth-ranked Bruin water polo squad defeated the Waves 7-5 Sunday afternoon at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool in Malibu, Calif. UCLA improves to 7-2 with the victory and now await Loyola Marymount and UC Irvine in matches later this week.
The Bruins took a 4-2 lead into halftime but allowed Pepperdine to tie the match halfway through the third period. Consecutive UCLA goals soon after propelled the Bruins to a 6-4 lead and the defending national champs never looked back.
UCLA held the Waves scoreless in the fourth frame.
