UCLA freshman Boldizsar Kocsor opened up the fourth annual Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational with a new lifetime-best in the hammer to finish fifth overall. Day one, which featured the hammer, saw the freshman set a new personal-best of 201-3, upping his best mark set last week at Cal/Nevada of 198-6 by nearly three feet.

USC's Adam Midles won the competition with a throw of 211-2, while Missouri's Chris Rohr finished second (204-9) and unattached thrower Sung Dae Lee and Missouri's Jason Norris tied for third with identical throws of 203-11.

UCLA senior Andrew Ninow, who is redshirting the outdoor season, placed sixth overall with a throw of 184-4.

In the women's competition, UCLA alum Jessica Cosby won with a toss of 214-7. USC rounded out the second and third-place spots as Eva Orban was the runner-up with a throw of 213-9 and Julia Rozenfeld was third with a mark of 193-0.

Competition continues on Friday beginning with the women's shot put and men's pole vault at noon. Running events will begin at 12:45 pm with the women's 100m hurdles. A distance carnival will begin at 6:00 pm with the women's steeplechase.
