UCLA's Daniel Im has been named Pacific-10 Conference Golfer of the Month for April and the Golf Coaches Assn. of America has announced the U.S. Team for this summer's USA-Japan matches.
Im, a sophomore from Fullerton, Calif., recorded his second career victory in winning the individual title at the Pacific-10 Conference Championships and leading the Bruins to their second conference title in four years. Im fired rounds of 67-68-70-72--277 (-7) in the tournament and claimed individual medalist honors by one stroke.
Im also had a Top 10 finish at the Augusta State Invitational earlier in April and posted a 71.0 scoring average in nine rounds over three tournaments during the month. His season scoring average is 72.2 entering the NCAA Regional, and he leads the Bruins with 14 rounds under par and a 96% counter ratio.
In other news, UCLA golfers Erik Flores, Tiffany Joh and Jane Park were named to the United States Team for the USA vs. Japan matches this summer. The 31st annual Fuji Xerox USA vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship will be held July 13-15 at Sun Hills Country Club in Japan's Tochigi prefecture.
Flores, a First-Team All-Pac-10 selection, currently leads the Bruins with a stroke average of 72.1 and ranks 13th nationally.
Joh and Park were also named First-Team All-Pac-10. Joh, ranked seventh in the nation, was selected the conference's Newcomer of the Year. Park leads the team with a stroke average of 72.5 and is ranked sixth nationally.
UCLA's three selections to the U.S. Team were the most of any school.
The fifth-ranked UCLA men's team competes in the NCAA East Regional at Lake Nona Country Club in Orlando, May 18-20.
The second-ranked UCLA women's team competes in the 25th NCAA Women's Golf Championship, May 23-26, at Ohio State's Scarlet Course in Columbus, OH.
