With USC coming to Pauley Pavilion this Wednesday, we thought it important to update you on the current standings in the Lexus Gauntlet competition. This is the 5th year that Lexus has sponsored the Lexus Gauntlet, a travelling trophy given to the school who wins the most head-to-head meetings between the schools in a given year. Each school has won twice in the history of the competition and UCLA holds a commanding 40 to 12.5 lead in points this season thanks to a weekend victory in women's swimming. UCLA needs 57.5 points to win the trophy outright. For more information go to: www.lexusgauntlet.com.

UCLA Sophomore Darren Collison is a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award presented by The Hartford, an honor presented annually to the nation's top collegiate point guard. Fans nationwide have the opportunities to vote for Darren at www.cousyaward.com and also enter into a drawing to receive two tickets to a 2007 Men's NCAA First, Second or Regional Round game. The award winner will be announced the the NCAA Men's Final Four in Atlanta on April 2.

UCLA Junior Arron Afflalo is also one of the 30 players on the watch list for the Wooden Award which honors the outstanding collegiate basketball player in America. From the list of 30 finalists, a 10-member All-American team is selected shortly after the Final Four with the five higest vote-getters, as selected by the Wooden Award Board of Governors, being invited to a black tie awards ceremony in Los Angeles. The winner will be announced live on CBS at that event.

Other notable performances from the past week . . .

  • The two-time defending national champion UCLA women's water polo team won the Stanford Invitational this weekend by beating top-ranked USC 11-10.
  • The 13th-ranked UCLA baseball team began their season this past weekend by taking a series from #23 Winthrop at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
  • The defending national champion UCLA men's volleyball team swept Hawaii last week and hosts Pacific on Feb. 9 and Stanford on Feb. 10 at Pauley Pavilion. UCLA is currently ranked 8th nationally.
