LOS ANGELES - The No. 3 UCLA men's water polo team lost to No. 7 Pepperdine, 7-6, in six overtimes Saturday afternoon at Sunset Canyon Recreation Center. The Bruins trailed 6-4 with less than two minutes to play in the second overtime and tied the contest, 6-6, paving the way for four sudden-victory overtimes.

Pepperdine junior Matt MacDonell netted the game-winning goal with 1:12 remaining in the sixth overtime. Both teams had gone at last 10:48 without scoring one goal.

UCLA (18-6, 4-3 MPSF) jumped to a 1-0 lead after the first quarter and led 3-1 after sophomore Scott Davidson scored his first of three goals with 2:48 remaining in the second frame. The Bruins led Pepperdine (18-11, 2-5 MPSF), 3-2, after three quarters.

Pepperdine junior Adam Hewko tied the contest with five seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, sending the game into two three-minute overtime sessions. The Waves took a 5-4 lead on an advantage goal by sophomore Brett Auer with 41 seconds remaining in the first overtime.

With 2:24 to play in the second overtime, Pepperdine sophomore JP MacDonell scored, handing the visiting Waves a 6-4 lead, their largest cushion of the afternoon.

UCLA used a furious late rally to tie the contest, 6-6, with just five seconds to play in the second overtime. Sophomore Tyler Jemmett found the back of the cage with 52 seconds remaining, and Davidson collected a rebound off the post before registering his third goal of the day with five seconds to play.

Neither team scored in the third, fourth or fifth overtime sessions (all sudden-victory overtime). UCLA sophomore Chay Lapin and Pepperdine sophomore Travis Stachowski each totaled 13 saves in goal.

No. 3 UCLA plays its final regular-season game against No. 8 Long Beach State on Sunday, Nov. 18. Game time is 12 p.m. at Long Beach State's Campus Pool.
