SAN DIEGO - Sophomore Scott Swanson scored a team-high three goals to lead the No. 2 UCLA men's water polo team past No. 14 UC San Diego, 14-6, Saturday evening at Canyonview Pool. Senior Marco Santos, sophomore Tyler Jemmett and freshman Clay Jorth each added two goals in the Bruins' final non-conference contest of the season.
After a quick strike by UC San Diego's Steven Donohoe early in the first quarter, the Bruins (17-5) answered with four goals to lead 4-1 after the first period.
UC San Diego cut the lead to 4-2 on a goal by Curtis Williamson early in the second quarter, before Swanson registered his third goal of the evening. The Tritons (10-14) again answered with a goal by Peter Gresham, his first of two goals on the evening, to cut the Bruins' margin to 5-3.
UCLA used a 7-0 run to lead UC San Diego, 10-3, through three quarters, after having led 9-3 at halftime. The Bruins outscored UC San Diego, 4-3, in the final frame to win the contest, 14-6.
The second-ranked Bruins return to action in an MPSF match against UC Santa Barbara on Sunday, Nov. 10, at UCLA's Sunset Canyon Recreation Center. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
