"First to 100" Continues Recognition at Upcoming Men's Basketball Games
As a part of UCLA's season long celebration honoring "First to 100," a student-athlete and/or coach from each of the 100 NCAA Championship teams will be honored at halftime of all home football and men's basketball games during the 2007-08 campaign. A total of seven additional championship teams will be recognized at the next two home men's basketball games. Those guests will be:
Saturday, December 15 - Men's Basketball vs. Idaho State
#3 - 1953 Men's Tennis (Bob Perry)
#63 - 1990 Softball (Deanna Weiman Kingsbury)
#94 - 2004 Women's Track and Field (Dawn Harper)
#95 - 2004 Men's Water Polo (Joe Axelrad)
Tuesday, December 18 - Men's Basketball vs. Western Illinois
#4 - 1954 Men's Tennis (Ron Livingston)
#53 - 1985 Softball (Mary Ricks)
#54 - 1985 Men's Soccer (Dale Ervine & Coach Sigi Schmid)
Throughout the course of this celebration, there will be a few subtle changes to recognize our celebration and elicit questions. A few of those changes include the official "First to 100" logo being placed on the back of our football helmets, as well as the reverse color "C" in the north end zone at the Rose Bowl. The "C" is reversed because "C" is the Roman number for 100. As other sports get underway, you will notice that the "C" on our jerseys will also be reversed when the team uses block lettering on its uniform. Men's Basketball will likely be the most prominent example of that.
Congratulations to all of these individuals and teams, representing the nation's most dominant and successful athletic program. UCLA - First to 100.
