Freshman Casey DiCesare put on a lifetime-best performance on Sunday at the Pac-10 Decathlon Championships as he finished eighth with a score of 6,468 points to pick up UCLA's first team point of the conference meet. After yesterday's first five events, DiCesare was in 10th-place, but moved up into the last scoring position after a solid day of competing. Arizona's Jake Arnold won the title with an NCAA automatic qualifying score of 7,755 points.
The freshman opened up day two with a lifetime-best by nearly a second in the high hurdles, running 16.86 (11th overall) for 639 points. In the discus, DiCesare threw 111-7 for 544 points (10th overall).
In the pole vault, one of his best events, DiCesare posted the third-highest vault of the day, 15-3, picking up 804 points. In the javelin, he came just nine inches shy of his lifetime-best to throw 150-0 for 526 points (8th overall).
Then in the final, yet most grueling event of the day, the 1500m, DiCesare ran 4:47.95 for 631 points (8th overall) to give him a day two season-best total of 3,144 points.
The two-day total of 6,468 points improved on his previous lifetime-best of 6,295 points.
The entire Bruin team will now get ready for the Pac-10 Championships, which will be held next Saturday and Sunday in Palo Alto.
