SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Senior Justin Johnson and junior Krsto Sbutega each scored four goals to lead the third-ranked UCLA men's water polo team past Santa Clara, 17-5, Sunday afternoon at UC Santa Cruz. Sophomore Cole Consani and freshman Clay Jorth each chipped in with two goals.
UCLA distanced itself from Santa Clara midway through the first quarter after Johnson tallied two goals in a one-minute span to break a 2-2 deadlock. Jorth's goal with 2:25 remaining in the quarter gave UCLA a three-goal cushion and the Bruins never looked back.
UCLA led 8-3 at halftime and commanded a 12-5 advantage after three quarters. The Bruins blanked the Broncos, 5-0, in the final quarter.
Johnson's four-goal performance marked the second such game in his career at UCLA. Goalkeeper statistics from the match were unavailable.
