Several Bruins participated in the Opening Ceremonies, which officially signal the start of the Olympics. Amongst the participating U.S. teams were the track and field, men's soccer and softball teams. UCLA track & field alumnus Jonathan Williams was the flag-bearer for Belize.

    Coming Up
    On Saturday, Aug. 9, Lauren Cheney and the U.S. women's soccer team face Japan at 2 am PT, while Kara Lang and the Canadian team face China at 4:45 am PT. Men's rowing action begins on Saturday, with UCLA Anderson School graduate Mike Altman competing in lightweight fours and UCLA women's rowing assistant coach Mark Hunter competing in double sculls. In beach volleyball action, Elaine Youngs and her partner Nicole Branagh will take on the team of Rebekka Kadjik/Merel Mooren from the Netherlands on Saturday at 3 am PT.
