Youth highlighted the No. 14 Bruin women on Saturday at the Illinois Invitational in Champaign as UCLA had several athletes post second-place finishes throughout the competition. Host Illinois won the meet with 122 points. Miami was second with 120.50, Texas was third with 119 and the Bruins fourth with 110.50 points.

Freshman Joy Eaton was the top finisher for UCLA in the 400m as she finished second in a time of 57.18. Shannon Murakami (5:03.10, mile) and Ke'Nyia Richardson (39-2.25, triple jump) also posted second-place finishes in their respective events.

Seniors Claire Rethmeier and Renee Williams were the top returning finishers with Rethmeier finishing second in the 3000m (10:01.56) and Williams placing second in the long jump (19-6.75). Senior Ingrid Kantola also finished in a tie for second in the pole vault with a mark of 12-7.50.

The 4x300 relay (2:37.02) and distance medley relay (12:27.90) teams also posted second-place finishes during the meet.

The Bruins will be off next weekend before returning to competition February 1-2 at the Washington Invitational.
