Barnes And DeLeo Highlight Men's Track & Field On Saturday

Behind two lifetime-best performances by Laef Barnes and Dustin DeLeo, the No. 7 men's track and field team wrapped up competition at the Texas Relays and Stanford Invitational on Saturday.
Barnes achieved the regional standard in the 1500m with his lifetime-best run of 3:44.62, which was nearly six seconds faster then his previous best time (3:50.41). He placed fifth overall in the race at the Stanford Invitational.
At the Texas Relays, junior Dustin DeLeo cleared an outdoor lifetime-best of 17-0.75 to place fourth in the top section of the vault in Austin.
The Bruins also picked up a regional qualifier in the high jump from freshman Taylor Hobson at the Texas Relays as he cleared a season-best 6-10.75 for third-place. Fellow freshman Jonathan Clark cleared a season-best 6-8.75 to place eighth overall as both competed in the "B" section of the high jump.
Also in Texas, senior John Caulfield placed second in the "A" shot put with a throw of 60-3.75. Freshman Bo Taylor, also competing in the "A" shot put, finished sixth with a mark of 57-2.75.
The distance runners had a successful day at the Stanford Invitational as two men ran season-bests and one tallied a lifetime-best on Saturday. Junior Kyle Shackleton ran a lifetime-best in the 5000m and was just over 1.5 seconds shy of the regional mark with his seventh-place run of 14:13.61. Sophomore Marco Anzures ran a season-best 9:16.76 in the steeplechase to place fifth overall. Freshman Spencer Knight (9:27.43) and sophomore Ryan Gordon (9:45.86) finished 13th and 19th, respectively.
In the 1500m, sophomore Marlon Patterson finished 18th in a season-best time of 3:51.24. Freshman Cory Primm placed 11th in the 400m (48.88), while freshman teammate Scott Crawford finished 29th (50.26).
Four distance runners joined together to run a 4x400m relay which placed 11th in a time of 3:22.64.
The Bruins will next host the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner Kersee Invitational April 10-12 at Drake Stadium as the outdoor season continues.
