The Pacific-10 Conference has cancelled the Feb. 8 gymnastics meet between UCLA and Stanford at Stanford after the UCLA team was exposed to an illness last weekend. The health and safety of the afflicted UCLA student-athletes and those with whom they might come into contact guided the decision.
UCLA's practices were cancelled Monday through Wednesday of this week, with subsequent practices for any healthy student-athletes to be determined. Those not currently ill may yet develop symptoms.
It is anticipated that attention to symptoms and a week free of travel and competition will allow for recovery in time for UCLA's next meet against Washington, Boise State and Cal State Fullerton on Feb. 15 in Pauley Pavilion. Stanford still is planning a meet at the same place and time (2 p.m.), but with a different opponent to be determined.
The UCLA-Stanford dual meet will not be rescheduled, but the two teams will face each other at the Pac-10 Championships in Stanford on Mar. 21.
