Alec Faldermeyer made his first NCAA Championship one to remember as the freshman threw a lifetime-best in the 35-lb weight throw to earn All-American honors at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Championships in College Station, TX.
Faldermeyer, who was won of the top prep hammer/weight throwers in the country as a senior in high school last year, finished sixth in the weight throw on Saturday to pick up the first All-American honor of his very young career. His toss of 68-3.25 was a new lifetime-best, improving on his previous best of 68-2.25. He was the top freshman finisher in the event after having come into the meet tied with another newcomer.
Also on Saturday, senior Jonathan Clark competed in the triple jump. He finished 14th with a jump of 50-9.50.
With Faldermeyer's sixth-place finish, the Bruin men scored three points in the team competition and finished tied for 50th overall. Florida won the men's crown with host school Texas A&M finishing second and BYU placing third.
