On Friday, the men's track and field team made their first appearance of the 2012-2013 season, as Lane Werley took part in the annual Hoosier Open in Indianapolis, IN. The sophomore Werley placed fifth in the 5,000m invitational race with a time of 14:01.58, 18 seconds off the winning pace of North Carolina State's Ryan Hill (13:43.52).
Werley was unable to hit the qualifying standard time of 13:44.60. Hill was the only competitor who was able to do so on Friday at the Gladstein Fieldhouse.
That meet was the first and only for the Bruins remaining for 2012. They will resume in January when they head up to Seattle on Jan. 25 for the Washington Invitational.
