Where is your favorite hangout?
My room. That's where all my stuff is, I'm comfortable there. I can relax,
watch TV, and hang out with my roommates.
What ingredients would your ultimate dessert have?
Lots and lots of sugar. Caramel, white chocolate, graham cracker crumbs,
and vanilla ice cream.
If you could have one celebrity guest over for dinner, whom would you
invite? What would you serve?
Chris Tucker. He's so funny, I love him. My goal is to meet him before I
leave college. I love Mexican food, so I would serve him Mexican food.
If you could have one professional athlete as a mentor, who would it be?
Jackie Joyner-Kersee. I really admire her. She played basketball and track
here, and she has accomplished a lot of things.
Do you have any pre-game rituals or superstitions?
I have a rhino beanie baby named Spike that I take to every game. He is my
good luck charm; he travels with me and he's in the locker room before every
game. I love beanie babies, and rhinos aren't my favorite animals, but a
high school coach gave Spike to me before I came to UCLA. He was supposed
to be for good luck, and so far he's brought me some.
Best movie you've seen lately:
The Best Man. I cried at the end of it. It was the best movie I had seen
in a long time. But my favorite movie of all time is The Color Purple.
If you could become a regular cast member on any TV show, which one would
you choose?
Ally McBeal. I would want to be Ally, although I would change her character
a little bit. But I love the show, I think it's so funny. I have to watch
it every Monday.
What do you see yourself doing in 10 years?
I'll be a kindergarten teacher. Married, with about 10 kids...just kidding.
I might be playing volleyball, but who knows?
What job did you most want to have when you were a child?
I wanted to be a police officer. I just knew I wanted to be a cop. I
would run around with my toy guns and watch all the police TV shows. That's
what I wanted to do until I found out that you could get killed...so then I
decided I should aim for another profession.
What do you like to do when you aren't playing volleyball or going to class?
Is there time left after I do those things?
What do you like the most about playing volleyball?
The team and the teamwork that is involved. I love playing with our team
and I love everyone on it. I can hang out with everyone on our volleyball
team and be totally comfortable. I also like hitting the ball.
What is your favorite sport to watch?
Gymnastics. I love gymnastics, and if I played another sport, I would be a
gymnast. In my front yard at home, I used to tumble and twirl and do all my
moves. During the Olympics, gymnastics was my favorite sport to watch. If
volleyball and gymnastics were on at the same time, I would choose to watch
gymnastics.
What type of music would you choose if you could only listen to one type for
a year?
R&B. I couldn't live without R and B, it relaxes me. Before a game, I
listen to other stuff like hip hop and rap. But when I'm at home and I need
something to soothe me, R and B is definitely what I like.
How do you feel as the second fastest person in NCAA history to reach 1,000
kills?
It's a great accomplishment and I'm glad I got it. But after it happened, I
didn't go home and revel in the fact that I got 1,000 kills. I was happy
but after the game was over, I didn't really think too much about it.
If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?
Rio de Janeiro. It has the most beautiful beaches.
If you could have any one super power, what would you want it to be?
The ability to fly.
What is your favorite class?
My English classes are by far my favorite because I love to write and read.
What is your favorite sport to play besides volleyball?
Track.
Who is your favorite cartoon character?
Pikachu the Pokemon. I love him, he is the cutest little thing. We'll be
on a volleyball road trip and in my hotel room, I'll be watching the Pokemon
cartoon show and the other players will look at me and say,"Kristee, you are
just being ridiculous!". But I I love watching it and Pikachu is my
favorite character.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
I was a little stressed about going to college, and choosing which one to go
to. My high school volleyball coach told me to always have fun with what
you're doing, and to not make it a chore. That's what I try to do with
everything. I never go out onto the volleyball court with a lot of
pressure. Of course people expect a lot but I never feel any pressure
because as long as I play hard, that's all that should matter. I go out and
have fun and don't make it too much of a chore.
