PASADENA, Calif. – In the lone home meet of the season for the UCLA cross country team the Bruin women were edged by the slightest of margins to rival USC, 27-28, Thursday evening in the Dual at the Rose Bowl held at the Brookside Golf Course.

UCLA downed Cal Poly Pomona, 20-36. On the men's side the Bruins defeated the Broncos, 18-37.

Valerie Morrison was the top finisher for UCLA, crossing the line in second on the 5K course at 17:43. Rachel Brajkovich placed fifth with a time of 18:00 while Jessica Cushing-Murray was sixth at 18:05.

Kelly Brooks placed eighth overall at 18:12 while Emily Fieberling was 13^th to round out the Bruins scorers with a time of 18:36. Jen Owen placed 18^th overall at 18:59.

Competing unattached for the Bruins was Ashlee Powers, who finished 10^th overall with a time of 18:16 and Katie Sered, who placed 24^th with a time of 19:31.

On the men's side, UCLA claimed the top four spots. Richard Ho won the race for the Bruins with a time of 24:57 on the 8K course. Maxwell Davis followed in second with a 25:05, Jordan Senko was third at 25:17 while Nolan Dickson rounded out the quartet with a time of 25:22.

Jon Bazinet placed 10^th overall with a time of 25:41. Running unattached, Jackson Marshall was fifth overall with a 25:27. Daniel De La Torre followed in 11^th at 25:41 and a group of Josh Wilson (15^th, 26:39), Scott Edwards (16^th, 26:49) and Cole Smith (18^th, 27:08) capped off the evening for UCLA.

The Bruins will be tested next weekend as they head to the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational in Madison. The event is slated for Friday, Oct. 17 and will be held on the Thomas Zimmer Championship course.
