
Fattal Leads Bruins in 10-7 Victory over Sun Devils

Sophomore Rachel Fattal led the Bruins' offense with four goals and goalkeeper Sami Hill anchored the defense with 11 saves, as UCLA (25-3) advanced to its first conference championship final since 2012. Arizona State, which upset third-seeded USC Friday in sudden-victory overtime, fell to 15-9.
The Bruins took a precarious 2-1 first quarter lead before distancing from the Sun Devils with four goals in the second period. Senior Becca Dorst got the scoring started with a 2-meter goal, which was followed by a power play goal from Kodi Hill. At 1:29, Arizona State scored its first goal and the quarter ended with the Bruins ahead by one.
Four unanswered goals in the second quarter – two by Fattal and two by junior Emily Donohoe – enabled the Bruins to build a 6-1 lead. The Sun Devils scored late in the period and went into halftime trailing, 6-2.
The Sun Devils opened the third quarter with a quick goal and trailed 6-3 before Fattal answered to make it 7-3. After another goal by ASU, UCLA sophomore Alys Williams scored to make it 8-4. Late in the quarter, sophomore Kodi Hill blocked an ASU shot attempt during a power play, and Fattal scored on the ensuing possession to give the Bruins a 9-4 lead entering the final period.
In the fourth quarter, the Bruins' Alexa Tielmann scored a quick goal on a power play to give UCLA a 10-4 lead. Arizona State then scored the next three goals, but time ran out and the Bruins had advanced.
