UCLA Notes – UCLA 42, Memphis 35 – Sept. 6, 2014
**Redshirt junior Brett Hundley tied the school record for most completions in a single game with 33, equaling the mark of Richard Brehaut (2010 at Arizona State).
**The 422 yards of total offense for Hundley was the fifth-highest total for a single game in UCLA history.
**The 396 passing yards for Hundley were the seventh-highest total for a single game in UCLA history. It was his sixth-career, 300-yard passing game.
**Hundley posted his 12th game with at least 300 yards of total offense, tying Cade McNown for the most in school history.
**Hundley moved into second in career total offense at UCLA with 8,617 yards, surpassing Drew Olson (8,324).
**Hundley saw his streak of attempts without an interception snapped at 146 following a fourth-quarter pick.
**Hundley has thrown at least one touchdown in 26 of his 29 career games, having thrown for multiple scores in 19 contests.
**Hundley won his 21st game as a starting quarterback, moving into solo fifth in UCLA history.
**Redshirt sophomore Paul Perkins recorded his first career game with two touchdowns, rushing for scores in the first and second quarters. He also ran for a personal-best 98 yards on a career-high 23 rushing attempts.
**Sophomore Thomas Duarte (110 yards) and junior Jordan Payton (104) each surpassed the 100-yard mark in receiving. It marked the first time since 2005 (vs. Arizona State) in which at least a pair of Bruins had 100 yards or more receiving in the same game.
**Duarte recorded his first career, two-touchdown game and had a personal-best four receptions.
**Junior Devin Fuller had a career-best nine receptions, while Payton had a personal-high seven catches.
**The 62-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter for redshirt sophomore Kenneth Walker was the first TD of his career, as well as his longest reception.
**The two-point conversion pass in the second quarter from Hundley to redshirt junior Tyler Scott was the first two-point conversion for the Bruins since Aug. 30, 2012 at Rice.
**The Bruins have won four consecutive home openers and all eight regular-season, non-conference games under head coach Jim Mora.
**The Bruins are 10-0 at home under Mora when scoring first, 17-3 overall under Mora when scoring first and 19-0 when leading at the half.
**UCLA is 11-3 at home in the Rose Bowl over the last two-plus seasons.
**The attendance of 72,098 is the largest home-opening attendance since Sept. 8, 2007 against BYU (72,986).
Memphis Notes
TEAM GAME NOTES
**Memphis' captains for the UCLA game were LB Charles Harris, RB Brandon Hayes and DL Terry Redden. UCLA won the toss and deferred until the second half. The Tigers defended the North Goal to begin the game.
**Memphis defensive end Martin Ifedi missed the UCLA game due to an injury, marking the first game he has not played a contest during his career. The Houston native has played in 37 career games and had a 22-game streak as a starter come to an end.
**Memphis' 35 points scored against No. 11 UCLA are the most scored against a top-11 ranked opponent in school history.
OFFENSIVE NOTES
**Memphis had 10 different receivers catch a pass in the game, the first game since the UCF matchup in 2013 where 10 Tigers had receptions. In last week's season opener, seven different receivers caught a pass.
**After 42 points in the first half last week against UCLA, the Tigers put up 21 against UCLA in the opening half for a total of 63 points through two games. The Tigers scored 89 first-half points in all of 2013.
**Through two, first halves of football, Memphis has now amassed 639 total yards of offense, including 310 yards during the first-half of the UCLA game.
**Memphis now has 10 rushing touchdowns through two games. The Tigers had 14 touchdowns on the ground all of last year.
**True freshman wide receiver Roderick Proctor caught a 13-yard pass for a first down late in the first quarter for his first career reception. Proctor finished the game with two receptions for 28 yards.
**Sophomore tight end Daniel Montiel also had his first career reception, a three-yarder on fourth down to sustain a second-quarter scoring drive.
**Paxton Lynch scored from eight yards out late in the first half to help give the Tigers a 7-6 lead with 25 seconds to play in the first quarter. The touchdown run was Lynch's third rushing TD of the season.
**Lynch completed 27-of-41 passes for 305 yards. The passing yard total broke Lynch's previous career best of 279 yards set last season against eventual Fiesta Bowl champion UCF in a 24-17 loss. Lynch tied his career high for pass attempts, but set a new career best with 27 completions topping his 26 completions at SMU in 2013.
**Doroland Dorceus had 13 rushing attempts for 86 yards, both career highs.
DEFENSIVE NOTES
**Sophomore linebacker Leonard Pegues finished the game with a career-high eight tackles.
**Tank Jakes finished the game with 12 tackles including a career-high four tackles for lost yardage including his first two quarterback sacks of the season. With four tackles for loss, Jakes is first to achieve the feat since Martin Ifedi had four TFL against Arkansas State in 2013.
**Red-shirt freshman nose tackle Cortez Crosby registered a quarterback sack for a second straight game.
**Fritz Etienne's 17-yard interception return for a touchdown with 13:44 to play was the first pick of the senior's career. UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley had not been intercepted in his previous 146 passes, dating back to the 2013 season.
**Etienne's pick-six was the first interception returned for a touchdown since Bobby McCain did it last year against Duke and USF.
