CORVALLIS, Ore. – UCLA (8-13, 4-6) dropped its fourth straight game and 15th consecutive to a ranked team as No. 7 Oregon State (20-1, 10-0) remained undefeated in the Pac-12 with an 82-64 win on Monday night in Gill Coliseum.
UCLA led 9-4 (15:06) after a three-pointer by Kari Korver in the early going with four of the five Bruin starters scoring in the opening minutes. But Oregon State used mini runs of 7-0 and a pair of 5-0 runs to build its largest lead of the first half at 14 points (40-26) on a pair of free throws by Jamie Weisner (1:31). Oregon State held a 42-31 lead at the break with Weisner leading all scorers with 18 points.
Jordin Canada led the Bruins with 12 points in the first half, each shot more amazing the last.
Oregon State built its lead by outshooting the Bruins 43.8 percent to 41.9 percent and winning the battle of the boards, 23-16. The Beavers also made all nine of their free throw attempts while UCLA struggled from the charity stripe, going 4-for-9.
In the second half, the Bruins scored just five points in the first eight minutes, allowing OSU to push its lead to 20 points (64-44) on a jumper by Samantha Siegner with 11:03 remaining. Oregon State enjoyed its largest lead of 22 points on a couple occasions until the Bruins cut it to 15 on another three by Korver.
Five Beavers scored in double figures for a balanced attack, led by Weisner's 18, who went scoreless in the second half. Ruth Hamblin finished with a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds. Sydney Wiese just missed a double-double with 13 points and nine assists. Deven Hunter added 11 points while Gabriella Hanson contributed 10 points.
Canada finished with a game-high 19 points to lead UCLA and also had team-highs of five assists and three steals. She was joined in double figures by Nirra Fields and Kari Korver, each with 11 points.
For the game, Oregon State outrebounded UCLA 42-32 and outshot the Bruins 46.6 percent (27-for-58) to 40.0 (24-for-60). The Bruins won the turnover battle, committing just 10 while OSU had 11.
TIP-INS
OSU: Jamie Weisner became the 18th player in Oregon State history to score 1,000 or more career points in the first half of tonight's game.
UCLA: Freshman Jordin Canada scored a career-high 19 points against the Beavers.
TRIPLE THREAT
Oregon State burned the Bruins in Los Angeles with 12 three-pointers and tonight made 11-of-27 from downtown while UCLA went 5-for-12.
