Doubles play was very close, with the Bruins needing a win in the deciding match at court No. 2 to pull off the point. Fortunately for the Bruins, top-ranked Catherine Harrison and Kyle McPhillips came through in the clutch, taking an 8-7 win over 77th-ranked Kassidy Jump and Joanna Smith to earn the point for UCLA. The Bruins' other win in doubles came at the top position, where 23rd-ranked Robin Anderson and Jennifer Brady overcame 36th-ranked Desirae Krawczykk and Stephanie Vlad, 8-2.
In singles, UCLA took a 2-0 lead when Harrison cruised to victory at court No. 5, downing Gussie O'Sullivan, 6-0, 6-1. Playing at court No. 2, Brady was also a straight-set winner, as she beat Vlad, 6-4, 6-2.
Playing at court No. 3, Chanelle Van Nguyen got the clinching point for UCLA, as she dropped the first set to Jump before absolutely cruising in the final two sets to register a 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 win and give UCLA an insurmountable 4-0 lead.
With the contest already decided, ASU managed to win the final three matches to make the final score 4-3 in favor of the Bruins.
UCLA returns to action tomorrow, taking on Arizona in Tucson at Noon.
